Palapa Mac Radio has never desired to be a one-trick pony... or horse, cow, rabbit, much less a chicken but speaking of farm animals we have recently added the Pasadena Livestock Show and Rodeo as one of our newest sponsors. We are genuinely excited about the idea of working with this fantastic organization.
Some people may think the working relationship would be awkward and nothing in common but that is furthest from the truth. Palapa Mac Radio is steeped in roots from the country music genre. Instead of hearing the normal array of country tunes about riding in the desert towards the sunset you hear many songs of the country flavor with topics about the beach, boats, Mexico, tequila, and drankin' beer... well you get the drift. We like to think of it as bringing the beach to the rodeo.
The lineage of the Pasadena Livestock Show & Rodeo begins during the late 1940’s
when several Pasadena area businessmen created the livestock show & rodeo
in an effort to bring the citizens of Pasadena together by offering opportunities
for the community’s youth. Their goal was to create an organization that would
preserve the lifestyle and moral convictions of an agricultural era and cowboy
heritage that was quickly passing. In 1949, the first Pasadena Livestock Show &
Rodeo was held on an empty lot off Red Bluff Road.
Today, the Pasadena Livestock Show & Rodeo is made up of more than 2,000
volunteers from all parts of Texas. Celebrating our 70th anniversary, the livestock show includes student projects from five area school districts and our rodeo attracts some of the world’s greatest cowboys and cowgirls in the business. In addition, our entertainment stage has played host to some of the greatest music artists in the country. To date, PLSR has given more than a million dollars in scholarships to deserving, hard-working youth within our community. With your support, we can continue that tradition for decades to come.
